    Packing and Preparation Guideline

The Cochrane Winter Rally is only about a month away now! It's time to start going through our kits to make sure we have what we need for a great day out in the mountains doing radio operations and watching rally cars blast through the snow. (With any luck we'll have a little less snow than last year!)

Here is a link to the Packing and Preparation Guideline. While this guide is most useful for operators who have little experience with rally events, I still recommend that all operators give it a quick review to ensure that nothing important gets forgotten.

Stay tuned, as more information will be posted in this forum as the date approaches. See you at Cochrane!

    Registration Now Available!

The Rallywest Cochrane Winter Rally volunteer registration webpage is now available. Here is the information you'll need to sign up as a radio operator for this event.

If you follow this url it will take you to the main RallyWest page:

    https://www.rallywest.com/

From there click on "Events" in the upper left of the page and you will be taken to a set of images for upcoming RallyWest events. Click on the picture for the Cochrane Winter Rally to get to the rally information page. Here is a shortcut:

    http://cscc.ab.ca/cochrane/

Click where it says Volunteer at the top of the page, or scroll down to the Volunteer Information section and look for the blue "Volunteer Registration Form" button near the end of that section of text. (Be sure you are using the button to sign up as a volunteer and not a race participant!) This will open a new tab on your browser and the registration page will appear there. Each time you click on that blue registration button the system gives you a unique tag, so I can't give you a shortcut here. If you bookmark the link you get after this point, with that unique tag, you'll be able to go back to your registration record and make updates later.

If you are considering coming to volunteer as a radio operator, then please complete this signup page. If you're not sure you can make it, then indicate in the comments that you're "tentative" for now. If I have no registration information for you, then it's difficult to assign a role or to contact you if there are urgent changes.

When indicating the radio equipment that you plan to bring to the rally, try to be as generic as possible. It's much easier to deal with "50 watt mobile radio with APRS and a quarter wave magnetic mount antenna" than a bunch of make/model numbers with which I may not be familiar.

Finally, please double check that the email address and phone number(s) that you enter on the registration form are correct. Messages that bounce back at me are not getting to you! It's also important to have emergency contact information, should a problem occur at the event.

One again, to accommodate feedback I have received, I will try to keep the number of mass emails to a minimum. I will generally post material here in the CARA General Forum where everyone can find it at their own pleasure. I'll try to reserve emails primarily for urgent, critical updates. That means it's up to you to check here regularly so that you have the latest information. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

I hope you'll be joining us for a great time at the Cochrane Winter Rally!

    Update

This is just a quick update to keep everyone apprised about plans for the Cochrane Winter Rally 2019.

It does not seem that the volunteer registration web page is ready just yet. I will let you know as soon as it becomes available, and provide instructions for registering here in this forum.

Details are still pending, but it looks like we may have the Comms Trailer deployed again this year. There are advantages to having Net Control close to the action, and our mobile comms unit has done a good job of making this possible at previous rally events. Thanks to the trailer team for keeping all that equipment in order.

We're also looking at deploying the temporary repeater again. It did a great job for us last year, giving us good RF throughout the venue.

I'll be reaching out to people for assistance with various aspects of the event, including the trailer team and the portable repeater crew.

    Clarification of Event Dates

There may be some confusion about the event dates. I trust this post will clarify the plan.

01 March is a Friday. Out of town competitors and staff/volunteers may arrive this day. Some setup activities may also take place at this time.

02 March is a Saturday. Recce, Parc Expose, Spectator Stages, etc. will take place this day. Some radio operators may be needed to assist with these activities and other event setup requirements. More information on this will be posted as it comes available.

03 March is a Sunday.  This is race day!  We'll need the majority of our radio operators on this day.

Keep checking this forum for information about registration. Details will be posted here as they come available.

    See you at Cochrane!
