Update on some Dates and Times

Due to some last minute changes, I want to be sure that everyone has consistent date and time information. Check your schedules to make sure that what you have syncs up with this information. We'll go over things at the pre-op briefing tomorrow as well.

    Pre-Op Briefing:

    19:00hrs, Friday 02 March 2018

    Calgary Sports Car Club

    4215 80th Ave NE

There was (very briefly) a link error on the duty roster, so make sure you have the one that reads as follows:

    Leg 1 (Stages 1-4, Waiparous) Activation time: 07:30hrs 04Mar2018

Leg 2 (Stages 5-8, Harold Creek) Activation time: 11:00hrs 04Mar2018

    Leg 3(Stages 9-10, Hunter Valley) Activation time:  14:00hrs 04Mar2018

Radio Configuration Guide - Minor Update

Due to the map changes a couple of small updates were required to realign the guide. The changes should only affect a few people at the North end of Hunter Valley Road.

    Assignment Roster V1

At long last here is the Assignment Roster for the CWR!

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/hlbeoz5gql70npn/Assignment%20Roster%20v1.1.pdf?dl=0

My apologies that this came out late this year. We've had to accommodate some last minute changes to the event maps, and that affects everything else.

Based on some recent surveys of the area, I have tried to place people into roles that make sense. There is a lot of snow out there, so sometimes the vehicle you're driving can make the difference.

There are a few people who have pulled double shifts (morning and afternoon). Please let me know if that doesn't work for you and we'll figure out something.

We can review this at the pre-op briefing tomorrow evening. So, if you have concerns with your assignment, please bring them up at that time.

    Garry, VE6GDS

    Updated MAP Information

Below are links to updated .kml, .kmz, and .gpx files for your GPS, APRS application, or other electronic map tool. There are a number of significant corrections to Hunter Valley Road locations and a few tweaks to other locations of interest.

The Radio Operators Handbook will also have a chart with GPS locations, for those asking about such information.  I'll get that out as soon as the Rally officials approve it. Thanks, Dana for parsing the previous material. If you have a simple way to parse out the updated material, perhaps that would be of use to people as well.

    Preliminary Maps

Below you will find links for .kml and .kmz files that can be loaded into Google Maps / Google Earth, several other mapping programs, and some GPS units. These maps show the *tentative* locations of interest for the 2018 Cochrane Rally. I trust that these maps help you in making your preparations.

I will be testing the digipeter and solar panel for a  Weather station I am putting together.

Has anyone created a pdf or xls  with the coordinates of each blocker and control location in a table?

I would like to enter the long / lat info the APRS Voyager program once I know my position.

    thanks Rob VE6CCL

    Radio Configuration Guide - Update!

There was a minor error in the Low Power Frequency Coordination Table at the back of the guide. This version has the necessary correction.

    Radio Configuration Guide

At long last, here is the radio configuration guide for the 2018 CWR! This document contains the frequencies, tones, offsets, and radio operation guidelines for the event. Keep in mind that things can always change between now and rally day, so be sure to check back here in case there are updates. However, this version should be reasonably stable.

One addition to this year's guide is the low power frequency coordination chart at the back of the guide. If you're planning to use 70cm cross band or FRS, then please have a look at the frequency recommendations. I'll be working out the assignment roster shortly, so you should be able to determine the recommended frequencies for your position. I have done my best to find clear frequencies for 70cm cross band use. However, if you're aware of the potential for serious conflicts that I have missed, then please let me know. For radio operators assigned to checkpoint / control point roles, try to get the marshals at your location to work with the FRS channel recommendations, if possible.

Big thanks go out to Dana (VA6DJH) and Ray (VE6LG) for their assistance with the technical infrastructure for this year's CWR and the preparation of material for this guide.

    Garry, VE6GDS
