The world wide amateur radio operator Winter Field Day 2025 is fast approaching on the weekend of 2025 January 25 -26, Saturday. The window for the contesting is (MST) Noon Saturday to noon Sunday, Jan 26.

This is a contesting event where contacts are made all around the globe.

    https://winterfieldday.org/

Hope to see you there, either as a contesting radio operator or just to see how it all works.  We will try to have a campfire in a barrel.

The trailer is insulated and fully heated with a diesel heater.

VA6RPL Peter LaGrandeur will tow the trailer to and from the field operating location.

Everybody is welcome to come out and see the comm trailer and help set it up at 9 AM on Saturday, January 25. Likewise, we need people to help pack up the trailer so it can be returned to storage the next day, Sunday, at noon. The more the merrier. Many hands make light work. Contact VA6RPL Peter LaGrandeur to let him know you are coming to see / help. Or, just arrive and jump in on the fun.

A schedule of twenty-four one-hour time slots will be set up on the CARA web site for radio operators to do contesting in the trailer. Please contact VE6NRO Neeroo Sharma-Hall to get your name on the list.

We are looking for a new location this year to set up our comm trailer. Our criteria for a location includes the following:

    • within or very close to Calgary

    • easy to access with 2WD vehicles

    • restrooms nearby

    • clear field of view in all directions for best radio propagation

    • no nearby chain link fences, overhead power lines, metal buildings

    • space to stretch out the guy wires for the raised mast

We need a couple of special volunteers for the following:

Reply to VA6RPL@techworld.ca if you can do one of these this tasks.

    • make and tend the campfire in the barrel. Barrel, axe, and wood supplied.

    • make and tend the coffee, tea, hot chocolate, chicken soup in the event tent adjacent to the comm trailer.

    • night watchman if no one is operating in trailer overnight
