    Hi Tim!

Thanks for signing up and thanks as well for volunteering to be Dave's backup for making sure the Comms trailer gets to the Rally. If you haven't towed that trailer before, you may want to get in touch either with Dave Cason or Peter LaGrandeur to get a quick briefing. I don't think there is any rocket science involved, but it always helps to get some pointers up front.

    I appreciate your help.

    Hi Garry, Dave,

I've signed up and I can tow just about anything (less a 5th wheel) so if you would like, you can put me down as a backup for Dave.

    Thanks,

    -Tim VA6TDG

    Event Registration Available

Event registration is now available on the RallyWest Web Page:

    https://www.rallywest.com/

When you go to the above site, you'll see the image for the Cochrane Winter Rally. If you click on that, it will take you to the Cochrane Rally page. Note that the material on that page has not yet been updated from last year's event, so don't let that confuse you. When you register, it is for the 2018 event. Scroll down about two thirds of the way to the Volunteer Information section and find the Volunteer Registration Form link (blue). Click on that and it will take you to the registration page.

Note the text on the signup page: "If you bookmark this page (with the token) you will be able to update your signup at a later date."

When you describe the radio equipment that you plan to bring, please provide a generic description, rather than equipment model numbers. For example, indicating that you have a "50w mobile rig with a quarter wave mobile antenna" is more helpful than stating a "Kenwood TM-D710G with a Comet SBB-2NMO." This reduces the amount of research I have to do to understand your situation.

Also, in the comments section, please be sure to indicate any special requests or concerns, so that we're aware of your particular situation. We'll do our best to accommodate Radio Operators who can only be available for part of the day (e.g. morning / mid-day / afternoon), so be sure to indicate if you have limitations or preferences in this regard.

Register soon and secure a prime spot to enjoy the Rally!

    Hey Dave;

Thanks for taking on the job of getting our Comms trailer into place for the Rally - much appreciated. It looks like we'll be able to put this unit to good use for the Rally Net Control operators.

Anyone who has business related to the Comms trailer at the Rally, please contact Dave directly to ensure that messages get passed correctly. I appreciate a cc: on this stuff, if you please.

Also, Dave, I'll have GPS coordinates of the Net Control location for you as soon as maps are underway. I assume you have a GPS, APRS application, or phone app that you can plug coordinates into for this purpose.

Finally, the Comms trailer will be "critical infrastructure" for the Rally. So, in the unlikely event that Dave cannot fulfill this role, we would like to have someone designated as a backup for Dave. If you can be available to bring the Comms trailer out on Rally Day in Dave's absence, please let me and Dave know.

    Event Announcement

Happy New Year to all Rally Radio Operators! I hope that 2018 is treating you well so far and you have your new calendars ready for planning radio operation events.

This year's Cochrane Rally is tentatively planned for Sunday 04 March, so be sure to save the date. This rally takes place in the Waiparous region Northwest of Cochrane and is one of the favourite radio operations field events of the year.

At this time event planning is underway, but the volunteer signup service is not yet available. So, there is nothing more to do than reserve the date and keep configuring all that new radio equipment you got for Christmas!

I'll post more details here as soon as they are available.

    73,

    Garry, VE6GDS
