This will be an Annual General Meeting.
Starting at 7, we will have a presentation by David James, VA7VK/VK3IA, titled "Communications and life at Macquarie island 1901 to today." The presentation covers David's experiences as a Radio Officer on a remote sub Antarctic island in the 1960’s as a member of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions. He begins with a historical discussion on how the various expeditions of Scott, Shackleton and Mawson were related during the heroic era of the 1900’s. During this time, the first radio telegraphy station in Antarctica was established on Macquarie island and south on the Antarctic mainland. David next discusses both commercial and amateur communications during the 1960’s and life as an expeditioner. This is followed with an introduction to the geology and astonishing wild life that resulted in Macquarie being designated as a UN World Heritage Site. The AGM will be conducted after David's presentation.
