Getting involved at CARA is easy... 

  • Join the club:  New member application 
    • Membership Classifications: (refer to Policy and Procedure Manual for full details)

      1. New Membership: Available to licensed new members. Fee includes an engraved name tag with a call sign. Initiation fee of $15 is waived for lapsed members who rejoin within twelve months of expiry; policy set by Board of Directors decision 2014 March.

      2. Full Membership: Available to those that are licensed only. Available to persons holding the Amateur Operator’s Certificate issued for amateur radio operation under the authority of the Government of Canada or a qualification determined by the Board of Directors to be the equivalent thereof. Full members have all CARA rights and privileges, full voting rights, and may hold office on the Board of Directors.

      3. Senior Membership: Available to those age 65 and over, or who provide proof of being retired from the work force. They have the same rights and requirements as Full Members.

      4. Family Membership: Available to those who reside at the same physical address as a “primary” i.e. Full, Senior, Life, CNIB, or Student member. Each Family member may have their own unique email address.

      1. Family Members who are licensed have the same privileges aa a Full Member.
      2. Unlicensed, they have all CARA rights and privileges but cannot vote on association business and cannot hold office on the Board of Directors.

      5. Associate Membership: Available to those individuals who are unlicensed. They have all rights and privileges, but they cannot vote on any association business, or hold office on the Board of Directors.

      6. Life Membership: This distinction is awarded at the discretion of the Board of Directors and is available to CARA members who have made long term extraordinary contributions to CARA and/or the amateur radio community. Life members are licensed members of all types, but no longer pay any dues.

      7. CNIB Membership: Available to individuals who are registered with the CNIB. No annual membership dues.

      1. CNIB members who are licensed may vote on association business and hold office on the Board of Directors.
      2. Unlicensed, they have the same rights and privileges as an Associate Member.

      8. Student Membership: Available to individuals who are eighteen years of age or under and still attending school.

      1. Student members who are licensed have the same rights and privileges as a Full Member.
      2. Unlicensed, they have the same rights and privileges as an Associate Member.
  • Check the Events Calendar
  • Attend a general or special interest group meeting
  • Volunteer as a radio operator for community service events 
  • Participate in a HF or VHF contest at the club
  • Drop by the club station on Saturday mornings to learn about, use and help maintain our station
  • Talk with other local hams on the club's VE6RYC 2m repeater 146.850Mhz 110.9 -600Hz
  • Check into our weekly 2m net Tuesdays 1pm on VE6RYC
  • Monitor and post in our forums
