Local Radio Nets

Another VHF/UHF net has gone.  The New Hams Net on VE6OIL which used to be held at 1930 on Thursdays has been lost because there were no volunteers to pick it up.  The last net was today, 2018 April 26.  Thus in the past 4 months, we have lost the Saturday Night Tailgaters Net, the Tuesday Ladies Net and now the Thursday New Hams Net.  The list of local nets on VHF/UHF is now very short.

An update on some of the nets I posted earlier: The Saturday Night Tailgater's Swap Net was on for a few weeks but I have not heard anything probably since the first part of December 2017.

Last Tuesday night there was an announcement that the Tuesday Ladies Net would not continue as there was no one stepping forward to continue as Net Controller.  And tonight, there was no Ladies Net.

While I no longer have a radio and cannot listen in, as far as I know, Mike Belliveau, VE6XZM is doing the TailGater's Swap Net every Saturday night out of Edmonton. He has had help I believe from another ham in that city.

Stephane I'll keep the ball rolling.  The nets I am aware of are some of what you stated:  CARATELS net on VE6RYC on Tuesday afternoons at 1300 hours.

Tuesday and Thursday at 2015 hours on VE6RPT is the 94 net.

I believe the Trans Canada net is still on the VE6OIL backbone and usually on the VE6OIL VHF repeater.  The time used to be 0900 hours on Wednesday mornings.  I haven't listened to this recently.

Tuesdays at 2030 hours on VE6OIL VHF and UHF is the Ladies Net.  But open to all amateurs.

Thursday at 1930 hours as you pointed out is the New Hams net again on VE6OIL and SARA.  Again open to all amateurs.

The Emergency Response Communications Net is on the FARS network so VA6CTV at 2100 hours on Sunday.

I have not heard the Tail Gaiters net on Saturday at 2030 hours since VE6SUM became a silent key.

On Sunday night on VE6OIL UHF there is a net from Central Alberta that I believe is related to the LDS church.  It generally starts at 2000 hours.

I do not listen to the D-STAR system but there is or are a couple of nets on that system as well.

I have heard a DMR net on VE6RYC DMR on Sundays at 1900 hours.  This net originates from Ontario and is on the Canada talk group.

These are some of the VHF/UHF nets that I am aware of.  I hope that other amateurs can support these dates and times and/or add to them.

    Hi All,

I was thinking recently about what seems like a lack of Nets in the Calgary area or perhaps it's that they are not well advertised?  Taking a quick look at the "Operating -> Nets" page on this website there is a small list of nets which I believe to be a bit dated.

What nets are you aware of that service the Calgary and area?  Perhaps if we can get updated content, I can get the page updated on the site.

I believe there is a net on Sunday night on the FARS network, there was a NewHams net on Thursday night on VE6OIL (SARA), CARATELS net on Wednesday noon on VE6RYC?  Is there still the TransCanada net on VE6OIL (SARA) on Wednesday morning?

    Thank you,

    Stephane
