Sorry for the lack of updates. We blew up a main board and had to come back to Calgary for a day to fix it. There is a geomagnetic storm on right now and conjunctions with the Van-Allen probes tomorrow night.

Current plan is to launch unit 2 with tracker VE6LAU-12 tomorrow night at 10 pm or possibly later depending on winds.

Really sorry about that, it got scrubbed at the last possible minute, right when we had the experiments powered up and everything was on the flight line.

Current best information is that the launch is pushed to Friday evening.

I made it as far as Didsbury when I got the abort text.  Lesson learned wait till the bird flies before you do.  Reminds me of the time I got tickets to watch a shuttle launch at Kennedy.  Never got to see the launch but man was it exciting to think I could have.

If it flies on Sunday I'm good for the hunt on Monday.

big technical problem combined with incoming weather cancelled the flight. I just got back from putting things away.

    next flight attempt this Thursday.

update: some questions got asked and I wanted everyone to know the answers.

You are, of course, welcome to come on the chase. We ask that nobody touches the payload if or when it is found. This is critical for both safety, and also for the integrity of the science results.

Our group will be on 146.520 voice, and I'll be transmitting APRS. The callsign I'm using for APRS is VE6AZX-5. I have messaging capability as well.

We are currently GO for launch tonight at about 9 pm from Corman air park, near saskatoon. Current best projected landing site is near Provost, AB. There are no guarentees and this may be revised later on.

    Hey everyone,

Just letting you know that there's a U of C high altitude balloon launch coming up, currently scheduled to fly from Saskatoon this Tuesday evening. This is a high capacity research type stratospheric balloon, and will fly until the terminate command is given somewhere over Alberta.

Payload is approx. 50 kg, containing an X-ray spectrometer and VLF radio receiver + support equipment. Descent will be on a ~20 foot bright orange parachute.

APRS callsigns used will be VE6LAU-11 or VE6LAU-10.

Will (VE6CMR) will likely be joining us to watch the launch. We'll be on APRS messaging and simplex 520

Any questions send me a message
