The Calgary Amateur Radio Association has three special interest groups called sections. Each section has its own executive and holds monthly meetings (except July & August). All CARA members are automatically members of all sections, so there are no separate "memberships" as such. Simply show up to a few meetings and the section will consider you one of "them." Consider yourself warned!
CARATELS
No precise definition of "senior" is used by these guys. CARATELS, the seniors group, meet for lunch during the week, and have some of the more unusual programmes.
Club Station VE6AO - DX
For historical reasons, the DX section calls itself the Calgary DX Club. The DX Club encourages all types of activity on HF frequencies; from 1.8 MHz to 30 MHz. This is "traditional" Ham radio, and at our meetings we discuss working DX, QSL cards, contesting, HF mobile radio, antennas, linear amplifiers and all the many things that go into successful HF operation. Our members are involved in SSB, CW, Slow Scan TV, RTTY and other digital modes.
VHF/Digital
What can we say about the VHF/Digtal Section? Besides the fact that they maintain the repeaters?
They don't seem to realize that 70 cm is actually UHF, so they have repeaters there too!
Of course these repeaters are used by all members of the club, and without them, we couldn't help out the public service events that we work.
This section also over sees the ATV repeater on the CFCN tower in the west end of Calgary and is also responsible for
the Digital repeaters (digipeaters). This includes APRS on 144.390 (simplex). They are also working on getting both WIRES for Yeasu and D-Star for ICOM in to the city.
